ISPCC Welcomes Adoption Information and Tracing Bill
The ISPCC warmly welcomes the publication of the General Scheme and Heads of the Adoption (Information and Tracing) Bill earlier this week.

CEO Grainia Long “It is essential that all children are given the opportunity to know their identity and that there are no unreasonable barriers to accessing information about their history. For too long, people seeking information about their past have been presented with legal obstacles, and this bill will go a long way to ensuring that blocks are removed.  The ISPCC believes that the legsislation strikes an appropriate balance between the right to access information and the right to privacy”.

The bill sets out the best interests of the child as the guiding principal and the ISPCC will be examining this legislation in more detail in the coming weeks to consider areas which could be enhanced.
