Parents
Becoming a Childfocus parent mentor
How do you become a Parent Mentor?
You must have a genuine desire to listen to, and support, parents in meeting the needs of their children and support the ethos of the ISPCC.
Training and support for Parent Mentors
You will receive training to help prepare you for your new role as a parent mentor. This training takes place over four sessions and covers;
- Your role as a mentor
- Boundaries
- Challenging behaviour
- Positive parenting
- Child protection
- Active listening
Shadowing
On receipt of satisfactory Garda Clearance the Parent Mentor will get to shadow four sessions of parent mentoring and ISPCC services. This allows you to see first hand how the services work and become more comfortable with your new role. Once you’ve completed your training and shadowing you can be matched with a parent.
Ongoing supervision
As a parent mentor you will receive on-going training through supervision with Childhood Support Workers. Parent mentors can also become involved in wider Society events.
If you’re interested in becoming a parent mentor phone your local Childfocus office for more information.
