Childline the service of choice by children and young people in Ireland had a very busy day on Christmas day.  ISPCC Volunteers who gave freely of their time throughout 2009 were again offering their listening support to hundreds of children on Christmas Day.

The ISPCC today welcomed the announcement made by Minister Andrews that €3 million has been allocated to finance the holding of a referendum on the rights of the child.

Today, on International Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, the ISPCC asks the question: are we as a society preventing child abuse in Ireland?

Today, the ISPCC expressed concern regarding a number of shortfalls in relation to staffing and resources in Ireland’s child protection and welfare services as detailed in the HSE national review of child and family services for 2008.

 

 

 

 

The ISPCC has today issued advice to parents on helping young people deal with the Leaving Cert results which are due out on Wednesday.

The first and most important thing to say is that the ISPCC expresses its profound regret to any individual, who following committal to an Industrial School on application by a member of ISPCC staff, was subsequently subjected to any form of abuse.

To mark International Missing Children’s Day (May 25th) the ISPCC is today highlighting the issue of missing children in Ireland and the need to implement a Hotline for Missing Children.

Marking the upcoming International Child Helpline Day on 17th May, the ISPCC formally launches its Childline Online services with support from the Vodafone Ireland Foundation.

The ISPCC would firstly like to extend its sympathies to the Dunne and O’Brien families at this difficult time. We urge the government to act swiftly to take the necessary steps to improve child protection and welfare services in Ireland.

While the ISPCC welcomes some of the recommendations from the Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children, it is disappointed at the failure to recommend the reinstatement of an offense of statutory rape and to hold a Referendum.

The ISPCC today welcomed the signing of Protocols between the Gardai and the HSE defining the arrangements and actions to be taken by both organisations if and when a child goes missing.

The ISPCC today welcomed a number of measures recommended in a report of the Garda Inspectorate, which are aimed at addressing the issue of Missing Children.
