Childline Rocks 2008 launch
Yesterday, saw the launch of this year’s Childline Rocks event at the The Academy, Middle Abbey Street Dublin 1. This is the second year of this unique rock event, which aims to raise much needed funds for Irelands only listening service to children.
Childline Rocks is a seven hour fundraising event, which will take place on the 28th February in the Academy, Dublin 1. Over 20 of the country's most prolific rock & indie acts have waived their performance fees in order to help raise €26,000 for Childline through this event.
Childline Rocks 2007 saw a sellout concert at The Village on Wexford St. Headliners were the mighty Republic of Loose & The Blizzards. This year is over twice the scale with 1,400 tickets available and is to be staged at The Academy on Middle Abbey Street. The promoters hope to repeat last year’s success with a second sell out show.
Speaking last night at the launch, ISPCC Community Fundraiser, Rita Lucnikovaite said “we are delighted to benefit from this event, which just so happens to coincide with Childline’s 20th birthday and the launch of our 2007 statistics at the end of the month. In 2006, Childlline managed to answer 242,761 calls out of a massive 639,968 calls received. These statistics highlight the huge need the Childline service has for increased funding and volunteers to ensure we can meet the demand placed on this vital service”
Last night’s live performance from Kilkenny artist RSAG and the Soul Riot DJs kept the crowd calling for more.
Tickets for Childline Rocks are on sale through Ticketmaster and cost €23 each (including booking fee).
