The ISPCC is reminding parents, carers, children and young people that its Childline listening service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for any child or young person who may be concerned about something they have seen online, or any other issue which may be on their mind.

Childline’s ‘Talking Makes Us Stronger’ campaign, delivered in partnership with the Vodafone Ireland Foundation, encourages children and young people to talk about anything they see online which upsets them.

The listening service moved to reassure parents, carers, children and young people, following reports of a particular piece of harmful video content circulating on social media platforms (including TikTok and Instagram) in recent days.

Childline has advised that the video not be re-shared onwards, to avoid causing further distress.

To help children and young people stay safe online, the service advises parents and carers to keep lines of communication open regarding online activity. A ‘Five Steps to Get Parents Online Ready’ guide developed by Childline and Vodafone can be downloaded for free here.

Childline is free to contact online, by phone, or by text, from anywhere in Ireland. The service is confidential and non-judgmental.

Any child or young person can contact Childline by chatting online at Childline.ie or calling 1800 66 66 66.

Further support and information content in relation to online safety – alongside a host of other issues and topics which children and young people may encounter in life – can be accessed at Childline.ie.
