Childline Christmas Appeal 2024: James's Story
This Christmas, what some children want more than anything is to be safe and loved.
They need a guardian angel. Will it be you?
‘‘Hello?’ says a trembling little voice, barely audible. It’s James, an 8-year-old boy whose courage to reach out to Childline reminds us why your support is so vital.
When James’s dad passed away unexpectedly, it left a deep void in his life. His dad had been his protector, his guide, and his source of love and safety. With his dad gone, his world turned upside down. His mam struggled to cope, and her new partner brought fear into their home instead of stability. James’s safe haven vanished, replaced by anger, threats, and bruises. He’s learned to stay in the shadows, too afraid to speak up, convinced no one will believe him.
But one day, James found the strength to call Childline. For the first time, he heard a caring voice tell him he wasn’t alone. This simple act of connection was the first step in his journey toward hope and safety.
“What if Childline hadn’t been there when James called?”
That’s a question we never want to face, and with your help, we won’t have to.
Many children, just like James, will reach out to Childline this Christmas. They’ll call not to talk about Santa or presents but because they feel utterly alone. Every moment matters, and we need your help to ensure every child’s call is answered.
We’re here to listen, support, and give hope to children like James. Your generosity makes it possible.
