Childline
Childline is Ireland’s 24-hour national listening service for all children and young people (up to and including the age of 18) in Ireland. It is private, confidential and non-judgemental and can be contacted for free from anywhere in Ireland.
Childline can be contacted by any child or young person by calling 1800 66 66 66 or chatting online at Childline.ie 24 hours a day, every day.
Children contact Childline to talk about any issue on their mind. Some children who contact Childline may feel upset, or isolated, while others simply contact Childline to chat about their day or share their hopes and dreams.
The Service
The ISPCC has transformed Childline’s online service to grow its capacity to deliver services to children through whichever means they choose to use to make contact – by call or online chat. The new Childline online service can be found at Childline.ie.
The Childline service, which operates from units across the country, is provided by a team of volunteers and staff who work to ensure children have somewhere to turn.
Childline is funded predominantly through donations – you can read more about our fundraising to keep Childline listening here.
Childline also receives some funding from the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention, as part of Connecting for Life, Ireland’s National Strategy to Reduce Suicide.
Crisis Lines
As part of work with the National Office for Suicide Prevention, the ISPCC makes a crisis line available to all children and young people within a local community if / when a tragedy or crisis occurs. This service is available on a 24-hour basis for an agreed time period to offer support to the school and community within the directly-affected area.
