ISPCC Childline is now recruiting volunteers across the country to help raise vital funds to keep the service listening to children and young people in Ireland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The national child protection charity’s annual Childline Change collection day takes place on the following dates this year:
Cork: 17th May
Nationwide (except Cork and Louth): 18th May
Louth: 31st May
ISPCC Childline supporters, with a few hours to spare, are being called upon to volunteer to ensure the greatest possible amount of funds is raised.
ISPCC Childline answers over 380,000 contacts each year from children and young people who may feel as though they have nowhere else to turn. Children call Childline for several reasons: they may be lonely, worried or upset, or simply wish to have somebody to speak with. Childline volunteers donate over 62,000 hours each year to informing, supporting and empowering children and young people in Ireland. Childline lets children know that they are important and that they matter. A call to Childline can change a child’s life.
ISPCC Childline costs €3.5 million to run every year and relies on public and corporate support to provide more than 90 per cent of this funding. ISPCC Childline fundraising volunteers, therefore, are essential to the charity. All of those who support ISPCC Childline are a part of every call the service answers.
ISPCC Volunteer Sarah Hughes said: “I raise funds for Childline every year because it helps the service answer children’s calls. I’ve been with the ISPCC as a volunteer for over six years now and I’ve answered messages from children of all ages. When they need to, they can reach out and we are there to listen. While we can’t always know the long term effect of what we do, it is the most amazing feeling to think that we can help children out of the dark by simply being there.”
ISPCC Director of Fundraising Gill Waters said: “we are calling on all our supporters with a few hours to spare to help make a difference in the lives of children and young people by shaking a bucket or leading a team on our Childline Change national collection day. We are extremely grateful for the generous support we have consistently received from the public and would be delighted to see this continue on our Childline Change collection days this year.”
