Your Question
I have 2 boys under 3, and since my second son came along I feel constantly tired and overwhelmed. Is that normal?
Answer
Hello, and welcome!
Thank you for sharing your concern. It’s completely understandable to feel this way when your children are so young and need so much of your time and energy. Feeling constantly tired and overwhelmed with two children under three is very common. These early years are physically and emotionally demanding, and many parents experience similar feelings.
Sometimes this can be a sign of parental burnout, which happens when stress and demands build up beyond what you can manage. You might feel this way because of sleep deprivation, constant responsibilities, or a sense that you’ve lost part of yourself.
Finding support and balance
Connecting with other parents through parent and toddler groups can be hugely beneficial, not only for you but also for your children. Talking to your GP, public health nurse, or a therapist can also help if you need extra support.
Try to accept help from family members, friends, or your partner when possible. This gives you time to rest or do small things for yourself, even something as simple as a quiet cup of tea, a short walk, or listening to music you enjoy.
Be gentle with yourself. It’s important to remind yourself, this is hard, but I’m doing my best.
