Your Question

Are community welfare officers trained in intersectionality, IE lone parenting.work.greif.intellectudl disabilities and sibling greif loss and social stress and hap housing and the therapies education activities and support needed esp if the mother has acquired physical disabilities like deafness and inability to use shoulders as before. The local cwo and disability agencies seem unaware that a single parent with more than one child has no automatic access to finance or childcare like typical families(even in abusive ones)…. Is it because of the constitution excluding the work of m.others and others does recognise the work of childbirth and childcare as valuable for the state and the economy even tho they are future employees unless they have disabilities

Answer

Hi there, welcome to our Ask the Team service!

It sounds like there is a lot going on for you right now, and it can be frustrating when services don’t meet our needs or expectations. Advocating for yourself can be exhausting.

Citizens Information may be a good place to start, as they can provide details on your entitlements: www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social-welfare/supplementary-welfare-schemes/community-welfare-services-and-payments/.

Additionally, the National Advocacy Service for People with Disabilities offers free advocacy support: advocacy.ie/.

Balancing life, health, and parenting can be challenging, especially when access to services feels limited. If you need someone to talk to, the Samaritans offer a free, confidential service: www.samaritans.org/ireland/how-we-can-help/contact-samaritan/.

Or, if you would like to talk to us some more, our Support Line is open Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–1:00 pm at 01 5224300. If you prefer, you can email us [email protected].

Take care of yourself, and remember that there is support available,

Robyn
