Your Question

Hi how would I go about a referral for my 12 year old son that is being bullied and struggling ? Thanks.

Answer

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to Ask Robyn with your question. You’re wondering how to refer your son, who is struggling at the moment—is that right?

It sounds like he is going through a difficult time, and we appreciate you reaching out to support him. You could contact your local Family Resource Centre, as they have a good knowledge of support services in your area. You can find the one closest to you here: familyresource.ie/family-resource-centres-regions.

Your GP is also a great point of contact for learning about available services in your area. Have you spoken to your son’s school? They may have support or counselling services that he could access.

For further information and advice, you can visit: ispcc.ie/category/parenting-hub/abuse-and-bullying/.

Additionally, our Childline support service is always available to your son if he would like to speak to someone confidentially and without judgment. It’s available 24/7 by freephone 1800 666 666 or via web chat at childline.ie/. There are lots of articles on the Childline website about bullying too, which you could maybe read together and then discuss bullying-and-abuse.

If you would like more information about our services and the areas we cover at ISPCC, you can contact our Support Line by emailing parentingsupp[email protected] or by calling 01 522 4300 (Mon-Fri, 9 am-1 pm).

Take care,

Robyn
