Vodafone Ireland and ISPCC Childline have announced details of a competition to find a Digital Mascot for the Irish Rugby team. The winner will have the chance to meet the team and virtually “run out” with them before they face England on the 20th of March in the final game of this year’s Guinness Six Nations tournament.
The match day experience is quite different without the roar of the crowd and many pre-match traditions have changed this year. One of the most loved aspects of every home Irish match is the traditional match-day mascots who walk out with the team before the game. Mascots cannot join the team in person so Vodafone Ireland and ISPCC Childline have come together to find a Digital Mascot for the Irish team instead.
To enter the draw fans simply text MASCOT to 50300 and donate €4 to ISPCC Childline.(ISPCC will receive a minimum of €3.60) Fans should then take a screenshot of their donation, say why their nominee should be the Vodafone Digital Mascot and tag Vodafone Ireland and ISPCC Childline between the 25th of February and the 10th of March. In 2016, the Vodafone Ireland Foundation announced a strategic partnership with ISPCC Childline with the joint vision of working towards ‘keeping children safe by keeping them connected.’ The ISPCC’s Childline Listening Service receives up to 800 calls, texts and online contacts from children and young people across Ireland every day.
Through the partnership Vodafone has committed to covering the cost of all calls into the service until 2025, as well as donating €2m from the foundation over 5 years.
Anne O’Leary, Vodafone Ireland CEO said “Vodafone Ireland has a longstanding partnership with both ISPCC Childline and Irish Rugby and we are delighted that, in addition to raising funds for an incredibly important cause, we are also using our network to connect our fans to the Irish rugby team and find our first ever Digital Mascot.
This year has been incredibly challenging, but Irish rugby has helped to boost morale and even though there will be no crowd at the game against England, our Digital Mascot will be representing the Team Of Us”.
John Church, ISPCC Childline Chief Executive said “ISPCC Childline is delighted to have the support of Vodafone Ireland and Irish Rugby with the digital mascot set to lead out the national team before their game against England in the Guinness Six Nations.
‘Children and young people need Childline more than ever right now. Our service is there to help strengthen their resilience, to help them cope with any challenges that come their way – but we need your support. By entering this fantastic draw, Irish rugby fans can help make sure children always have somewhere they can turn. Every entry will help to keep Childline listening every day and night in 2021 and beyond. Thank you!’
