Childline Christmas Appeal 2025: Jack's Story

Will you be their Guardian Angel this Christmas

Jack is just 14. Grace, his little sister, is only three. And this Christmas, they’re hungry, frightened, and alone.

Jack does everything he can to care for Grace. He tucks her in at night, makes sure she has her bunny, and even runs to the shop for milk – because their mum, struggling with addiction, won’t. There’s no food in the house. No money. No one is looking out for them.

Jack’s story is heartbreaking. When he first called Childline, our volunteers listened as he shared the overwhelming burden he carries. He’s just a child himself, but he’s become the parent. And he’s terrified they’ll be separated – sent to different homes, torn apart.

“Let them be taken by Tusla then. They’d be better off!” overheard from their Gran

Jack thought he could rely on his grandmother. But even she turned her back on him. Can you imagine being 14 and believing no one cares – not even for your baby sister?

This Christmas, you can be Jack’s guardian angel.

Your gift can make all the difference

Childline is a lifeline for children like Jack. We’re here 24/7, offering a safe space to talk, to be heard, and to feel cared for. But we can’t do it without you.

  • €30 – could help us answer a call from a child in crisis over the Christmas break
  • €50 – could support training for our volunteers
  • €100 – could help us be there for Jack every time he calls

Be a Guardian Angel Today

This Christmas, while many children are surrounded by love and warmth, others like Jack and Grace are struggling. Your donation can help us be there – every hour, every day – for children who feel forgotten.

“Someone who listens and cares is the best Christmas gift you can give him this year.”
