Christmas should be a time of joy. But for many children in Ireland, it’s a time of fear, hunger, and loneliness. Every day, children turn to Childline because they have no one else. Your gift today can make sure they’re never alone.
Jack and Grace’s Story
Jack is just 14. His little sister Grace is only three. They should be thinking about school and playtime, not worrying about food or safety.
But Jack calls Childline because he’s scared and overwhelmed. Their mum struggles with addiction, and there’s often no food in the house. Jack tries to hide his fear, but he’s still a child himself.
Jack does everything he can to protect Grace. He tucks her in at night, makes sure she has her bunny, and even goes hungry so she can have milk before bed. He carries the weight of being a parent, but none of the choices. Jack told us:
“I just want someone to care. Someone to listen.”
When he calls Childline, he finds that someone. A volunteer who listens and reassures him that he’s not alone.
But Jack worries constantly. He fears they’ll be homeless soon. He knows if that happens, he and Grace will be separated. The thought terrifies him.
Every day, Jack fights to keep his sister safe, even when he feels like no one else cares. This Christmas, you can show Jack, and thousands of children like him, that someone does care.
