Your Question

Hi, I’m finding it really hard to keep up with bills and school costs (voluntary contributions, which my child has been ask about 3 times!) And now we’ve got Christmas approaching too. I’ve tried putting money aside, but it is so difficult.

Answer

Hello and welcome

Hi there,

Thank you very much for your enquiry. It sounds like you are carrying a lot at the moment, and money worries can feel especially heavy when schools are looking for contributions and Christmas is approaching. Many parents are in the same situation, and it is understandable to feel the pressure building.

School related costs

You have already been doing what you can by trying to put money aside, and that shows real effort. Sometimes the issue is not lack of willpower; it is simply that the costs do not match the income, especially with the rising cost of living. It might help to speak with the school and let them know you are finding the voluntary contributions difficult right now. These contributions are optional, and families are not expected to stretch beyond their means.

Financial supports and advice

There may also be supports available locally, depending on where you live. Services such as MABS provide free and confidential advice on budgeting and managing bills. Some community groups and charities also offer support around Christmas for families who are under pressure.
