Engaging activities for children during Covid-19

1.    Play board games: Board games are a fun and easy way to keep everyone distracted. 

2.    Make play dough: Mix a cup of flour, half a cup of salt and half a cup of water in a bowl. If the mixture becomes too dry, add a little more water. If the mixture is a little too sticky, add some flour. If you’d like a splash of colour, separate the dough into smaller balls. Make a small hole in the centre (not all the way through, just far enough to add the colour) using a few drops of food colouring or washable paint and knead the dough until the colour is mixed all the way through. This can be kept in the fridge in an air-tight bag for up to four weeks.

3.    Movie night: Movie nights are fun and something for all the family to look forward to. You can even make some popcorn. To avoid arguments you can put everyone’s name on a bowl and pick out one – the person whose name is pulled out gets to pick a movie first and so on until everyone has had a turn to pick a movie. 

4.    Play in the backyard: As of now, experts say you are fine to be outside as long as you keep social distancing in mind. Games like hurling, basketball, soccer or tennis can provide great fun and exercise. 

5.    Draw on the driveway with chalk: Draw pictures, or play good old-fashioned hopscotch. 

6.    Play cards: Cards are a cheap and easy way to have fun. There are huge range of different games to cater for any number – snap, five lives and lots more.
 
7.    Read a book: Books are a great way for young people to escape and take their mind off what’s currently happening.

8.    Get active: Specialists say it’s important to still go out and get active, while keeping ourselves safe by keeping our distance. Going for walks and cycles can keep us and our families feeling good.

9.    Keep connected: Keep in contact with relatives via social media, video call applications, or even through the phone.
 
10.    Get cooking: Try making homemade pizzas! You can make the base from scratch or use a wrap as the base. 

11.    Get baking: Many of the supermarkets offer easy-bake options – remember, keep it simple. Rice crispy buns are always a good option. 

12.    Arts and crafts: Try painting, drawing or colouring. 

13.    Homemade jigsaws: First make a picture colouring or a painting, then cut it into jigsaw pieces.

14.    Treasure Hunt: Turn your home into a wilderness with hidden treasure – children can play pretend as hunting pirates.

15.    Disco Time: Play some music and get dancing. Encourage your children to move and express themselves. 

16.    Make a story book: Drawing pictures is a great way to keep children entertained. If they have a purpose in mind, they can become even more encouraged to complete a project. Can they make their very own story book, which they can read to you at bed time?

17.    Fluffy Slime:
•    Put a half a cup of shampoo and a quarter of a cup of cornstarch in a bowl.
•    Mix well. 
•    Add three drops of food colouring (optional).
•    Add one tablespoon of water and stir.    
•    Slowly add five more tablespoons of water, stirring well after each one.
•    Knead the slime for around five minutes.
