Your Question
My 10 day old wont stop feeding on formula
Answer
Feeling overwhelmed
Thanks so much for your question. It can feel really hard when your baby seems to want to feed all the time, and you are definitely not the only parent going through this. At ten days old, it is very common for newborns to look for lots of feeds. Their tummies are tiny, so they only take a small amount each time but need to top up often. Babies also sometimes have “cluster feeds,” when they want lots of feeds close together, especially in the evenings or during a growth spurt.
Signs your baby has had enough
With formula feeding, babies usually take what they need. They give little signs when they are full, like turning their head away, slowing down, or falling asleep. If your baby has plenty of wet nappies and is gaining weight, those are good signs that things are going well.
Checking in if you are unsure
You know your baby best. If you are worried, or if your baby still seems unsettled after feeds, it is always a good idea to have a chat with your GP or Public Health Nurse. They can check your baby and give you advice that is right for you. You can also find clear and trusted information on the HSE website mychild.ie, which has lots of tips on feeding newborns.
