How can I find private behavioural support and OT services for my 4-year-old struggling in preschool?

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting Ask Robyn.

Firstly, I want to acknowledge that it sounds like you’re facing a challenging time in trying to access the right support for your son. It can be both worrying and frustrating when the support we need for our children feels out of reach.

You mentioned wanting information about finding a private behavioural specialist early development preschool for your son. It’s not clear if your son has received a formal diagnosis, but AsIAm, Ireland’s autism charity, may be able to guide you toward services that meet your needs. They can also provide advice on private occupational therapists (OTs) who might be available sooner than your current referrals. You can visit their website at asiam.ie.

Have you also spoken with your Public Health Nurse to explore what local supports might be available? Additionally, is there a family resource centre in your area? These centres often signpost parents to local support groups, parenting resources, and other helpful services. You can check for a family resource centre near you at this link: www.tusla.ie/services/family-community-support/family-resource-centres.

If you’d like additional support or want to discuss the above options further, you can also contact the ISPCC Support Line Service at 01 5224300. They are available Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Or you can email to [email protected].

Take care of yourself,

Ava
