Sexologist and Co-Lead on the Active* Consent programme, Dr. Siobhán O’Higgins talks about the effect social media can have on adolescent relationships and how to navigate this often difficult time with your child.

Top Tip: If your child tells you that their classmate ‘Mary’ sent a nude picture to someone and now everyone has seen it, try to react with empathy. Instead of saying, ‘What a fool Mary is!’, take a deep breath and say, ‘Poor Mary’. 

Reacting this way will show your child that they can come to you if they are ever in trouble and you won’t immediately get angry or judge them.
