Answer

Hi there,

Welcome to Ask Robyn. Thank you so much for getting in touch with what is going on for you. We know this can be really scary for you and your family when your child has gone missing, and even more feelings come up when you feel they have run away.

It is positive that you have called the gardai and are seeking support with this and we would recommend this as first port of call. We also have a missing children’s hotline that you may find helpful. This can be contacted on 116 000 and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can provide information and emotional support to family members of a missing child. You can find more information about this service here: www.ispcc.ie/missing-childrens-hotline-faqs/

We know this can feel overwhelming, and a huge feeling of worry especially as she has specific health needs. You may feel blame or guilt if you had an argument prior to your daughter running away. It is important that you know you are not alone in this. DO you have another friend or family member who can be there to support you? Someone to talk to and listen and even just to have someone physically present can really help.

You can also can contact ISPCC’s Support Line which can be contacted by email to [email protected] or by phone from Monday to Friday 9am – 1pm on 01 522 4300

We hope you have found this helpful.

Take care of yourself.

Robyn
