Answer

Hi there,

Thanks so much for getting in touch with your query around Non Violent Resistance (NVR).

NVR is a supportive programme for parents and carers. It aims to empowers parents and carers in managing conflict with their children and young people at home as well as understanding behaviours that may lead to escalation behaviours.

The programme supports parents in feeling more empowered to address various behaviours that parents may feel challenging to address such as violence or aggression. Parents can also be supported with many other areas by engaging in the NVR programme and it may help for you to speak about what is going on for you with someone in our service. Parents and carers can often feel alone or ashamed in managing such behaviours and this programme has had excellent outcomes for those who engage. You can find more information by contacting or support highlight (number highlighted below) or by reading this article: www.ispcc.ie/child-to-parent-violence-the-non-violent-resistance-programme-nvr/

NVR is a weekly programme and lasts a minimum of 8 weeks. ISPCC do offer it in certain areas in Ireland and it can be run online. You may find it helpful to speak further with someone on our parent support line to find out if it is available in your area. You can contact the Parent Support Line by calling: 01 522 4300.

Even if it is not offered by ISPCC within your area you can reach out to NVR Ireland- www.nvrireland.ie  or Parentline – www.parentline.ie .

Family support centres in your area that may be available to offer support.

We hope you have found this helpful but please do not hesitate to get in touch by phone or email ([email protected] ) if you wish to speak about this further or get more information.

Take care,

Robyn
